The Right Jean Fit For Your Body Shape

I’m here to let you know that no matter your body shape, you can look great in a pair of jeans. It’s just about knowing what styles work for you and make you look AND feel good. The main body shapes we’ll touch on are hourglass, inverted triangle, pear, rectangle, oval and diamond.

Keep reading to discover what jean fits are right for you and tips on what to look out for when purchasing a new pair of denim jeans.

Hourglass Shape

Known as the perfect body shape which means the options are unlimited when it comes to selecting the right pair of jeans. If you have an hourglass figure, you most likely have a balanced body and vertical body shape with a well-defined waist. Contour and accentuate your beautiful figure with stretch denim in straight leg, high waist and gently flared styles like bootcut jeans.

Straight leg jeans would be the #1 choice as they elongate your silhouette and are a versatile option if you’re looking to get the most wear out of your jeans.

Triangle/Pear Shape

Pear-shaped women typically have fuller thighs and a full rounded bottom. You most likely have a balanced body or short-legged vertical body shape.

Low rise pants are the best option when it comes to jean rises (see below) to avoid gaping at the waist. If you’re not a big fan of low rise jeans, then opt for a contoured waistband as this will also alleviate waist gapping issues. Choose bootleg and/or flared jeans to balance out your hips and skim your silhouette.

Opt for darker denim washes to create the illusion of slimmer legs, while using accessories and design to draw attention to your upper body.

Inverted Triangle Shape

You most likely have narrow hips with a well-defined waist, a long-legged vertical body shape and proportionally slim legs. Essentially, you want to create the illusion of an hourglass body shape by balancing your lower body to your upper body.

You have a number of options when it comes to choosing the right jean styles such as wide leg, relaxed fit (boyfriend jeans) and flared jeans. A fuller leg line will balance your shape and create curves in the right places.

Rectangle Shape

A rectangle body shape will most likely have a balanced body or long-legged vertical body shape, with a flat bottom and undefined waist.

Also known as a straight or boyish figure, this body shape can wear many jean fit styles. If you are on the slender side, your main style aim would be to add curves by creating an illusion of a waist.

Straight fit (from hip to knees, with a slight flare at the hem) to gently flared jeans are your best option. To create curves, select a contoured waistband with a mid-rise.

Oval Shape

Also known as an apple shape, the waistline is typically rounded and undefined, with wide hips and full upper thighs. You may also have a full bottom or a flat bottom.

The best jean fit for an apple body shape would be straight jeans. If you’re conscious about your midsection, opt for a high rise for coverage and support. Gently flared jeans are also a good option to create balance on your bottom half.

Diamond Shape

Similar to the above, a diamond body shape has an undefined waist, round and high stomach. You may also have a full bottom or flat bottom.

Your main style aims are to create the illusion of a longer, inverted triangle body shape. Go for the same denim and jean styles as mentioned above for apple body shapes.
